Google has come up with a new logo which is a bar code which probably means ‘Google’. This bar code on Google’s home page is code 128 encoded. This is an acceptable way of encoding ASCII character strings, ie Aa-Zz, 0-9 into a barcode. Am sure Google used their own bar code project , ZXing to come up with this code. The same method is used in Android for bar code recognition.
Bar code is a recent technical invention that has become unnoticed and is very essential in the modern days. Its format is a global standard whereby scanners from any company or manufacturer can interpret the code from any location
The bar code is a good example of why uniform protocols and standards serve a greater good for all of us, and the same lesson certainly applies to the web and the internet.
I had to check that the bar code was correct (some of the internet geeks here say the bar code isn’t 100% correct), since Google Inc has in the past messed up things when they try and talk geek dirty.
Google oftenly changes its logo for various occasions e.g. holidays and other special events. Here comes their 10th birthday logo from last year,e.g. More recently they celebrated Gandhi’s birthday. Google hosts some of their holiday logos here, and fan created logos here.
